IDQ ID281

This manual contains the instructions for the ID Quantique (IDQ) SNSPD ID281.

There are four detectors: two in the visible range, and two in the near-infrared range.

Cooldown (new system)

The system needs to be pumped down before starting the cooldown process. We do not own a vacuum pump at the moment, but we typically borrow it from other groups.

  1. Borrow the vacuum pump
  2. Make sure that the He static pressure on the compressor is higher than 1.65 MPa;
  3. From the web interface on the second PC (accessible at 169.254.28.1:8080), verify that the system is in the Starting status, waiting for the user to start the sequence.
  4. Press the start button on the web UI.
  5. Follow the instructions on the web UI as they guide you through the different steps. Roughly, you will:
    1. Slowly open the manual venting valve
    2. Connect the vacuum pump
    3. Switch on the pump power supply
    4. Switch on the turbo pumping by pressing the main button (⏼)
    5. Scroll through the parameters until you see the pressure value (parameter 340: Pressure)
    6. When pressure reaches 103 hPa, turn on the He compressor switch to start cooling the system
  6. Once you get the message Fully close the manual venting valve, and then confirm, do so.
  7. Stop the pump by pressing the main button (⏼), and wait for it to stop rotating.
  8. Disconnect the vacuum pump.
  9. Cover the valve with the blank flange, centering ring, and cast clamp.

The compressor cooling phase takes ~8 hours from room temperature.

Operating the new software

The new software is based on a web interface, that can currently be accessed at the address 169.254.28.1:8080. The connection to the ID281 Control Box occurs via Ethernet cable.

Updating the calibration files

This calibration should be performed when the system is at room temperature.

  1. Download the XXXXX software and connect via USB to the ID281 Control box
  2. For a given input, disconnect from profibus
  3. Click on Add/replace sensor
  4. Click on Custom curve and select the calibration file
  5. Repeat for the other inputs, if necessary
  6. Finish by allowing the connection to profibus
  7. Proceed to cooldown the system
